Academics / Achievements :
After completion of training in General Surgery and the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow(FRCS), higher training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery was undertaken at St Thomas’s & Guy’s Hospital in London and Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead. This involved specialist exposure in reconstructive surgery of the breast, face, hands and trunk, Hand Surgery, Microsurgery and Supra microsurgery. International fellowships in Hand and Supra microsurgery were undertaken in Taipei and Tokyo University Hospitals. International Aesthetic Fellowship was undertaken in Instituto Ivo Pitanguy in Rio De Janeiro and Head and Neck oncology fellowship was done at Bombay.
In addition to providing a reconstructive surgery service in hands (trauma, nerve compression, rheumatoid arthritis, complex hand fracture fixation) and breast (post mastectomy reconstruction, congenital asymmetry) and Lower limb reconstruction (post trauma, post joint replacement) specialist areas of interest include body contouring for patients after extreme weight loss, Perineal Reconstruction ( post cancer excision ), skin cancer management, chest wall reconstruction following open heart surgery and management of problem scars.
Mr Gnanajebamani is extremely socially conscious and with the help of a charity in London and a church in Sri Lanka has organised and operated in six plastic surgical workshops in Sri Lanka which was aimed at helping people in the developing world, educating local doctors in basic plastic surgical procedures and inspiring other trainees to do similar humanitarian work wherever it is needed. Allwin continues to work in Sri Lanka from time to time.
